We're Honored! Our Own Umpqua River Lighthouse on a Postage Stamp!

June 21, 2007 the fourth series of U.S. Lighthouse postage stamps was issued and featured five lighthouses of the Pacific Coast.

The stamps sold for 41 cents and featured: Diamond Head Lighthouse (Hawaii),  Five Fingers Lighthouse (Alaska),  Gray's Harbor Lighthouse (Washington),  Umpqua River Lighthouse (Oregon), and St. George Reef Lighthouse (California).

The lighthouses were honored for their historic role in guiding vessels safely through perilous waters according to a U.S. Postal Service press release. Each stamp features an original acrylic painting by noted artist Howard Koslow.

Mr. Koslow is known for his intricately detailed depictions and his images let lighthouses shine in all their glory. Mr. Koslow also painted the five Southeastern Lighthouse stamps issued in 2003, the five stamps in the 1990 Lighthouse booklet, the five Great Lakes Lighthouse stamps issued in 1995, and in 2009 he captured the 5 lighthouses of 'hurricane alley' with the release of the Gulf Coast Lighthouse stamps.
